Chile 2012 | my first real travel experience

Image
After celebrating my dad's 50th birthday the night before, the hangover on the plane to Chile was horrible! But flying into Santiago was amazing - a city surrounded by the Andes (which was dusted with snow). Harriette came to meet me at the airport and guided me through the public transport system to our hostel.  Santiago is where our first real adventure together began. Together we explored the busy streets, ate plenty of food, became used to the tipping etiquette, drank pisco sours, enjoyed the buskers performing at traffic stops, experienced the very public display of affection and learnt about the country's history of democracy.  We visited Valparaiso for a day, a colourful and lively seaside town with steep streets! It would have been nice to stay a couple of nights here, but our time was limited. We eventually made our way up to San Pedro de Atacam. It is a small tourist town, but with a lot to offer in terms of outdoor activities and food choices. A great stop
